Police detain author of the San Fernando Massacre

The Police detain in Tamaulipas Jose Guadalupe Reyes Rivera, identified as an operator of Los Zetas, and is accused of having planned and taken part in the killing of 72 migrants in August of 2010.

Elements of the Federal Police apprehended Jose Guadalupe Reyes Rivera, "El Sasi", identified as an operator of Los Zetas and one of those probably responsible of having planned, and killed the 72 migrants in San Fernando Tamaulipas in August of 2010.( See Link to BB reporter Ovemex original report)

The capture happened after an arrest warrant was ordered by a Federal Judge of the Second District in Penal Processes matters with residence in Tamaulipas.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic offered a reward of five million pesos for information leading to his capture.

Reyes Rivera was apprehended in a mechanics garage located in the Camino al Pueblo Colonia, in the Tamaulipas capital of Ciudad Victoria, he was immediately transferred in Matamoros Maximum Security Prison.



In the next few hours a Judge will determine the judicial situation of Reyes Rivera.

It should be mentioned that at least 18 Municipal Traffic Policemen from San Fernando collaborated with Los Zetas, in the execution of the 72 migrants, whose bodies were found in a mass grave located in an area of the Municipality.

The Municipal Police were carrying out Halcone duty and intercepting people who were later taken to "the pentagon", ie the county jail in San Fernando where "El Mero Bueno" who was an old Policeman, and another called Oscar Jaramillo, who both took money from criminals to collaborate.

On the 2nd of April of 2011, elements of the Mexican Army detained Elfego Cruz Martinez, Jupiter Almer Cano Guerra and Adela Yudith Ochoa for the crimes of homicide, kidnapping, and violation of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives.

The investigation was merged with another investigation that was opened by Sergio Cordova Martinez, Julio Cesar Lugo Chaca, Jose Mauro Onate Rodriguez, Samuel Moreno Saavedra, Edgar Sosa Solis and Juan Pablo Cabrera Escalante, also detained by the Military for violation of the Federal Law of Firearms.
