Arley Gomez, Mexico’s attorney general is reporting that it was El Chapo’s desire to make a autobiographical movie that led to his capture.

She claims during the investigation of his whereabouts to recapture the capo, they discovered the intention of Joaquin Guzman Loera to film a biopic and  investigators made contact with those responsible for doing so, which enabled the authorities to recapture the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The film making venture was revealed in phone taps of Chapo’s attorney.  PGR was able to capture conversations between the attorney and actors and producers.

Furthermore, “communication was established by PGR investigators with actresses and producers to be in the film," said the head of the PGR.

As part of the investigation, she said, they were successful in documenting the meetings between lawyers of "El Chapo " who would perform the film.

"El Chapo "and Jorge Ivan Gastélum will be transferred back to the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation No. 1 Altiplano. At a conference in the hangar of the PGR in Mexico City International Airport, the security cabinet gave reports on the recapture of "Chapo" Guzman and Jorge Ivan Gastélum. Altiplano was the prison El Chapo tunneled out of last July.

The attorney general attempted to reassure the public by saying strict security measure have been taken, such as patrolling tanks, to assure there isn’t a third escape by El Chapo.

After arriving at the address where  “El Chapo and Gastélum were staying, Mexican Navy elements were fired upon, as Chapo and Gastélumn attempted to flee through a storm drain system, they emerged through a culvert and boarded a vehicle to continue their escape.

They were arrested while in the vehicle on the Los Mochis-Navojoa road. They were relocated to the motel while elements of the Navy awaited reinforcements.

In my earlier post I had mentioned that residents had reported on social media that Chapo had once again fled through the drain system, which explains early photos of Chapo where he appeared dirty and his body marked with scratches.

From Gomez' account Friday:

The A.G. said,  after Chapo’s escape, it took a couple of months of  of investigation and military operations in the region to grasp and understanding of the network Chapo was using, including aircraft, vehicles and properties.

She states that in October they tracked him to a ranch house in the Durango town of Pueblo Nuevo, although he was in reach he was able to escape capture at that time, because he was accompanied by a young woman and children when helicopters flying above had him in sight, they withdrew fire as to not kill the others.

Note: In the fall there were rumors that Chapo had been making trips for weeks at a time to Los Mochis,  the attorney general says by late December, authorities suspected that Guzman had gone to the coast.

They focused on a Los Mochis home suspected of being one he used   as a safe house  On Friday commandos from the Mexican Marines  raided the house, setting off a shootout that left five people dead. Guzman and one of his top lieutenants, Ivan Gastelum, used a El Chapo signature move,  fleeing through the drain system. They ascended and popped up through a manhole cover and stole a car but were captured, both unharmed,  and moved to the motel.

Gomez says Chapo has already been positively identified through different studies. Chapo appears to have suffered no worse for wear during his time on the lam.   In fact he is more youthful looking, lending to some credibility  to the rumors he had gone through plastic surgery procedures.
