Passport in hand, Moreira leaves courthouse |
In an abrupt change of mind and without explanation, Spanish prosecutor withdrew their appeal of judges decision, that allowed scandalous former Coahuila Governor, Humberto Moreira to post bail while awaiting trial.
Prosecutors had vigorously objected to the decision by the court that would allow Moreira to regain his Mexican passport and leave Spain. Deemed a ‘high flight risk” prosecutors pledged to fight the decision.
But, then they backed off that decision.
Moreira was granted bail on January 22nd. He has since retrieved his passport and is expected to leave Spain, although when the question of his plans were proposed to him, Moreira said he was uncertain at this time what he would do, he claims it depends on his continuing education plans.
The money laundering case proceeds against him and is expected to be brought to jury trial.
If the former PRI Party national chief does leave Spain and refuses to return for trial, Spain would be forced to file an extradition request.
