At least 20 soldiers are being held at the headquarters of the Sixth Military Region La Boticaria, near the port of Veracruz for the murder and torture of a auto mechanic in Tierra Blanca.   Military sources in Mexico City indicated that the soldiers belong to the 80 Infantry Battalion,

The soldiers in custody were among 530 who had been deployed to Veracruz to combat the theft of petroleum products from Pemex pipelines in Tezonapa, Tierra Blanca, Omealca and Tres Valles

Milenio noted that Victor Garcia Garcia, 31, left as every morning to work as a mechanic, but never reached its destination because he was intercepted by armed men in military uniforms, and traveling in a 4 door jeep painted in earthtone camouflage  like the Army uses.  They handcuffed him and put him in the truck.

Three days later he was found dead.

Milenio reported  It was Monday (Feb. 29) when Victor left his house in Colonia El Mirador in the town of Tezonapa, Veracruz, in his Chevrolet green 1999 model truck "He was a street mechanic, , he went with his tools where ever  he was sent " said one of his brothers by phone , who does not want his name to appear for fear of reprisals

Victor's brother says neighbors and friends saw when the soldiers arrested him, handcuffed and were circling in the Jeep painted like camouflage , painted as the Army vehicles are pained and it had four doors."

,"After they handcuffed him and put him into the jeep and  they took him towards (a place called) Maguey. . I guess they took him there because they thought there was  nothing, along that route but they were wrong because there were people in pozos (surface mines) , rod holders, and many people saw them, "he said in an interview with Milenio.

That Monday, around 15:30 hours, "some people who had seen what had happened came to me and told me what happened and I should go see about it.  . We went to ask the battalion and they told us there was nothing. We asked the PGR in Cordova and they told me the only person in custody was there for a minor crime.

Since no one gave him any answers, relatives, friends and neighbors began with the search for Victor on March 1. "We started as 40 people with machetes,  They (the military) were  there watching us  but never helped  us in the search. ".

That day those searching for Victor went to the Sixth Military Region and found the Jeep which  supposedly the soldiers used to kidnap  the man.

"I ran to the jeep and I looked ., after I got a boost  I could see the evidence there (...)his tool box in which  was a cinch to pull and a rope,  I know the rope with certainty ,because I had tied it many times helping my brother.  . The soldiers never let me touch it, "he said  but he took a picture,

Then a soldier chambered a cartridge and said "Get out of here.  No one else can pass here because the people just interfere.

Victors body was found the next day showing signs of torture.  His burned pickup was found about 4 kilometers from where he was abducted.

Reforma reported that this past Friday the battered body of Victor Garcia was turned over to his family for burial in Sierra Blanca.   Victor's brother who gave the interview to Milenio he wanted no pictures taken of the body and said that he had not viewed the body of his brother because he did not want to remember him that way.  He said his sister and brother had positively identified the body and that was good enough.
