Lucio R. with C.E. Martinez for Borderland Beat- Huge thanks to NARCOMICS, for their continuing support!

Sentencing date for Alfredo Beltran Leyva, aka “El Mochomo”, previously scheduled for yesterday Monday, June 6, 2016, at 2:30 PM was converted to a Status Conference on that same date and at the same time. A status hearing was held, and a motion for a continuance sentencing on behalf of Beltran Leyva was granted.  New sentencing date is July 20, 2016.

In a surprise move, and without any deal, Beltran Leyva plead guilty in February of this year, giving up his right to a jury trial. He filed with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, a waiver of right to jury trial, and pleads guilty to trafficking cocaine and meth.

While entering the guilty plea, Beltran Leyva took exception  with being accused of being a kingpin, or leader of the Beltran Leyva Organization (BLO), a charge he still contends is not factual. In court before Judge Richard Leon, he declared “I was a member, not a leader”.

If the case had proceeded, big name narcos were lined up to testify against Beltran Leyva, as part of their own deals made with the U.S. Deals that seemed the U.S. had given away the store by negotiating with heavy hitting narcos, and killers, to put away one guy.  The exception would be the Flores brother, one of the twins who betrayed Chapo, both who the U.S. has recognized as provided invaluable information used in multiple cases.

Those that would have testified in the Beltran Leyva case included ; Margarito Flores, El Rey Zambada, La Barbie Villareal Valdez, La Grande, Margarito Flores and a Colombian Juan Carlos “Chupeta” Ramirez.
