Tijuana: Miami business man executed in Marriott Hotel

Miami businessman executed in Tijuana

In perhaps Tijuana's most upscale hotel, a man and his father were gunned down Thursday morning. The son died on the scene, while his father sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital.  The gunmen or gunman escaped, though municipal police were on scene within a few minutes of the shooting.
The victim Jorge Kalb Zarmei, 37, was killed, he was from Miami, and a U.S Citizen.  He and his father were in the investment and securities business, Jorge Kalb is a financial adviser in the employee of One Atlas Financial Group in Miami, he is a licensed broker of bonds, stocks, mutual funds and other investment related products.  The men were in Tijuana for a meeting with Daniel De La Rosa Anaya, Security of State Public Security, who frequently comments on organized crime in the city.  De la Rosa Anaya, through a statement denied a meeting with the two Miami businessmen.

The father Daniel Kalb, 71, was treated on scene, and taken to a private hospital in Zona Rio.  The suspect or suspects allegedly fled in a black Passat.  The Marriott on Aquas Caliente in Colonia Hippodermo is one of the nicest in the city, bordering a golf course, and a hub of business and social meetings in the lobby and lounge area.

By midday, the hotel was returned to normal, with guests and slight law enforcement presence remaining for the continuing investigation.  The attack took place in the lobby, when gunmen entered and fired upon the victims.  There is some confusion regarding the business partner of the deceased, Eduardo Shobert, the elder Kalb allegedly blames him for the attack.

Jose Eduardo Shobert-Gonzalez fled after the shooting, but was detained.  He has been under investigation and charged for theft from businesses, and forgery, in a scheme involving a landscaping company.  His partner was accused of stealing 600,000 from their Tijuana based company.  Two of Eduardo Shobert's  former business partners were also murdered, one in Culiacan, and one in Mexico City.

The killing likely is tied in to this.  The gunmen could have mistaken, or missed their target, trying to gun down Shobert Gonzalez, hence why he fled the scene.  The financial misconduct, former partners murdered, Culiacan, there's enough circumstantial to assume he could have been involved in criminal activities that could catch up to him.

It is worth noting that many are murdered monthly, and none have the social standing of the deceased, men of careers and resumes, suits and business cars, while their deaths makes headlines, the underclass victims go unnoticed.
