Nephew of "El Mayo" Zambada gunned down in Culiacan

Two men were chased and executed in a hail of high powered gunfire while travelling close to the "El Puente de la Isla Musala, while descending on the El Dorado Boulevard in the Las Quintas colonia.

One of the victims was identified as Giovani Parra Zambada, approximately 41 years old, nephew of one of the Sinaloa cartel leaders, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, the second victim has not been identified.





The events occurred a little after 1 pm this Friday when the two victims were travelling in a white Acura. Gunmen chased the Acura with Jalisco plates and when they arrived at Traffic signals of El Dorado they collided with another vehicle.

The victims jumped out of the Acura and tried to escape running, but the sicarios gave chase and fired at them repeated times, both men were killed a few meters from the pavement.

Parra Zambada is the body to the right of the vehicle in the dark blue shirt. A woman identified as Yazmin Gastelum was hit by a stray bullet during the event, and was taken to a private hospital.

Those responsible have not been identified, relatives of the deceased arrived at the location of the shooting, presumably to identify the bodies, and the shootings were widely commented on by social media as the events were happening.

Officials of different corporations attended the scene and taped it off while diverting traffic, while forensic experts examined the crime scene.

On the 10th of December of 2015, another nephew of Mayo Zambada was killed by gunfire together with other men in the Miguel Hidalgo colonia. Vincente Zambada Reyes was the son of Jesus "El Rey" Zambada Garcia, brother of El Mayo and who was indicted for narco trafficking in a Federal Court in New York.

RIODOCE adds that there were dozens of spent shell casings at the scene of 7.62 x 39 calibre suggesting the weapon/s used were AK47's.

Proceso adds that personal documents of the two men and two pistols were also recovered from the scene.
