According to PGR, the criminal organization headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes AKA El Mencho has a presence in Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, Guanjuato, Nayarit, Guerrero, Moreles, and
CJNG is the criminal organization with a presence in more states, even more states than el Cartel del Pacifico (Sinaloa), according to PGR. The CJNG violence erupted in Guanajuato on May 1, 2015, when a failed attempt to apprehend El Mencho resulted in a series of narcobloqueos on behalf of this organization in Jalisco, Michoacan, Colima, and Guanajuato. During this particular incident, CJNG burned four vehicles and several businesses in Guanajuato.
On that occasion, members of CJNG shot down a Mexican Air Force helicopter in Villa Purificacion municipality, which resulted in the deaths of 8 soldiers and one federal police officer.
