Miguel Angel Guzman Loera, brother of Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, was set free at the weekend from the maximum security prison of Altiplano, after serving more than 11 years in prison.
Family, Lawyers and prisoners of the Cefereso No. 1, in State of Mexico, said to APRO that Miguel Angel Guzman Loera, known as El Mudo, was freed after completing his sentence.
The now freed man, 49 years of age was imprisoned with his older brother Joaquin, when he was in turn detained in February of 2014, until the ex leader of the Sinaloa cartel escaped from the prison in July of 2015 through a one and half kilometer long tunnel.
After his escape, the Organic Decentralized Administration for Social Readaption and Prevention, of the Secretariat of the Government, ordered the transfer of various prisoners from Altiplano, among them certain ex Jefe's of Cartels, to different prisons in the country.
Miguel Angel Guzman Loera was sent to Oaxaca, but after a successful amparo was returned to Altiplano where he finished his sentence.
He was detained in 2005 in Culiacan, Sinaloa, and condemned to 15 years in prison, accused of money laundering, he promoted an amparo and the positive outcome of it saw his sentence reduced to 11 years, 4 months and 11 days in prison.
The brother of El Chapo also tried to get early release due to the fact that he had never been charged with organized crime, but the Federal court denied the amparo.
After the recapture and extradition to the United States of El Chapo Guzman, his brother Aureliano, El Guano, has been identified in the press as one of the leaders, along with the sons of El Chapo, of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Joaquin Guzman Loera is now in prison in New York, where he may be sentenced to life imprisonment, accused of organized crime, drug trafficking and money laundering.
