No less than 14 persons were killed and 8 wounded Tuesday night in the city of Chihuahua, when an armed commando attacked a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts informed the local Police.

"An armed group gained access to the inside of the centre of the Rehabilitacion Uniendo Familias and commenced to shoot the residents, killing 14 persons as well as leaving another 8 wounded", informed a press release of the Secretary for Security of the city of Chihuahua, capital city of the State.

According to the Secretary for Security, the attack against the centre for rehabilitation, was perpetrated with assault rifles. It is estimated that 25 persons were inside the centre during the attack, which produced a mobilization of first aiders to attend to the wounded.

Dozens of local Police patrols as well as State Police flooded the area while others established a search zone to try to find those responsible for the attack, who are presumed to be linked to organized crime.

Chihuahua which shares and ample border with the United States, is one of the States hit hardest by narco trafficking violence where the Juarez cartel operates fighting against the other criminal groups like the Sinaloa cartel.

The violence in Chihuahua seemed to have fallen but in the last year there have been a glut of attacks, above all in Ciudad Juarez, which shares a frontier with El Paso, and which a decade ago was considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

In the last decade, the violence linked to drug trafficking, has produced no less than half a dozen attacks against drug rehabilitation centres that the authorities signalled are adjustment of accounts between rival organized crime groups.

According to authorities, the gangs linked to narco trafficking, suspect that members of rival groups take refuge to hide there , which has led to the indiscriminate attacks.
