The Judge, of the Fourth District of Federal Penal Processes in the State of Mexico, found El Tigre guilty of the aforementioned crimes. Flores Trevino was captured on 4th of September of 2009 by elements of the army when he was encountered aboard a pickup, carrying weapons, after his detention, a commando intended to rescue him, that generated a confrontation with the army, that saw the criminals fire anti-tank grenade launchers against the army vehicles.
Otis: The following information does not form part of the above Milenio article but is intended to give some background on "El Tigre".
When Heriberto Lazcano and Miguel Angel Trevino voted for Los Zetas to split with the Cartel del Golfo, they denounced El Tigre, who was trying to arrange a meeting between the heads of CdG and Los Zetas or "the company" as they were known then to CdG.
At the meeting, Los Zetas did not show up but the Army did and arrested El Tigre, the inference being that Los Zetas had given him up.
At the end of that month, seeking revenge for the death of one of their men, Concord 3 who was chief financier of Los Zetas, they issued an ultimatum to the Cartel del Golfo, deliver Samuel "Metro 3" Flores Borrego or face the consequences. CdG responded by expelling Los Zetas from Reynosa and other cities. M3 was eventually killed.
